The ultimate chip upgrade for the Beetle 1.8T engine is available from APR. After months of long nights and many hours of dyno work we are pleased to offer you chip tuning that is second to none. We have worked hand in hand with many customers to deliver a chip that works. Expect huge increases in low-end torque, improved throttle response and a smoother, more powerful top end.

The APR Beetle chip is available in a 1.0 Bar configuration. The chip is designed to operate within the turbochargers' efficiency range. Some APR chips are available in an octane specific version for the octane of gasoline that you typically run in your car. The power that the chip makes also depends on which ECU is in your vehicle. Please see the chart below for more information.

All APR chip upgrades use encryption, which serve several purposes. First, it keeps prying eyes out of our software and prevents lesser companies from copying the chip and degrading the product. Secondly, the encryption prevents the dealer from flash programming the ECU. Also, all APR software is undetectable to a dealers VAG diagnostic tool.

Want chipped mode? Want to be able to switch back to your stock settings? Want a race mode to run 100 octane fuel at the track? How about a valet mode that limits power? EMCS is the lone technology on the market that can give you all of these options. No changing of the chip or ECU is required. These programs are available at the touch of a button.

APR has taken your cruise control buttons and utilized them for this function. Your cruise control will continue to function as normal, but will give you the ability to scroll through the programs you have purchased on your APR chipped ECU. The procedure is simple and involves only two steps.

Step 1: Press and hold the "set" button on your cruise control. After approximately five seconds, the "check engine" light on your dash will begin to blink once per second. This will tell you that you are activating program one. This blinking sequence will continue for approximately five seconds.

After this five second interval, the "check engine" light will begin blinking twice per second. This will indicate that you have activated the second program. This process is continued to access any remaining programs you may have purchased. (three blinks = program three, four blinks = program four).

Step 2: Once you have activated the desired program, simply release the "set" button. The "check engine" light will go off, and you will be locked in that program until you change it.

All APR chips now include EMCS hardware. EMCS options are available at an additional cost over the normal price of a chip. Please remember that even if you do not purchase any of the following options, you will still be able upgrade to these options from most any internet accessible computer at a later date. How to Purchase

There are several options for obtaining your chip. You may have your ECU modified at any of our Authorized Distributors. The second option is to send the ECU directly to us to have it modified. Typically your ECU is returned the same day we receive it. For ECU removal instructions see our Customer Support page.

If you're sending your ECU in to us, please print out and complete the order form below. Be sure to indicate which programs you would like to purchase, as well as the other information listed. For information on the program options, see below under the EMCS heading.

A third option is to order a spare ECU and have us install the modified chip before sending it on to you. This will allow one to swap the stock engine computer back in when getting the car serviced. The spare ECU's that we sell are new factory units. Because of this, there are no refunds on spare ECU's, only on the APR software. For more information on this, see the Terms and Conditions of Sale. Spare Beetle ECU's start at an additional $400. Installing a spare ECU in some cars will require the use of our immobilizer clone software, which is available at no charge. This software can be utilized with a VAG-COM tool, also available through us.
